An interpreted concept of what ‘Hari Malaysia’ meant to Daven, a Malaysian Human Rights lawyer in New York. Daven said “What it means to me ‘now’ is racial unity. Perhaps more importantly, it is an opportunity to do better and be better as a nation, so that someone who looks like me doesn’t have to go through the experiences I did such as seeing “no indians” in home rental ads, or “chinese only” in job applications, or watch as people stepped aside when I entered into elevators or crossed the streets to avoid me. It is easy to blame the government but we all have prejudices and biases within us that we have to consciously be aware of and that’s where change happens.” The message here is ACCEPTANCE.
If we know better, be better.
